The new Local Government Act is now in Force

As of January 1, 2016 the revision of the Local Government Act is now in effect. The BC government intends the revision to only reorganize the old version of the Act. Therefore, the revision is not meant to make any substantive changes to the law but merely improve the organization and structure of the Act following several amendments to the Act over the years. The BC government states that the revision should not affect bylaws or other documents enacted under the pre-revision version of the Act because of the rules established under the Statute Revision Act.

To ease users into the new Act, the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development (and responsible for TransLink) has published two tables of concordance that allow users to look up the old sections of the Act and locate those sections in the new Act or look up the new sections of the Act to locate the old sections.

The tables can be viewed at: http://www.cscd.gov.bc.ca/lgd/policy_research/revised_lga.htm
