Michael's Biography

Michael joined Young, Anderson as an associate in May 2008 after completing summer and regular articles with the firm. Michael has a mixed practice that includes advising clients, drafting bylaws and conducting litigation regarding a wide variety of local government matters, including highway use, tax collection, remedial action requirements, business regulation, building and development permits, land use bylaws and expropriation.

While wearing his solicitor's hat, Michael is a regular speaker on tax collection matters for the Government Finance Officers Association of British Columbia and was a contributor to five editions of the CLE's BC Real Estate Development Practice Manual. Michael has also been a regular presenter at the Justice Institute of British Columbia and the annual conference of the Licence Inspectors and Bylaw Officers Association.

Michael holds a number of degrees, including an LL.B and an MA in Economics from the University of British Columbia. In 2014, Michael obtained a Master of Laws at the University of Toronto with a specialty in business law. Michael's master's thesis considered economic efficiency theory and the use of municipal regulatory powers to affect the competitive balance among local businesses.

In his spare time, Michael volunteers his time on two community boards and is a keen traveller, pub-quizzer and increasingly poor soccer player.
