COVID Vaccine Update: Employee Groups Prioritized for Vaccine
Following completion of our recent Newsletter article regarding COVID vaccines, the Provincial government announced it would be providing vaccines to certain occupational groups in April. This bulletin provides an update to that Article.
On March 18, 2021, the BC government announced they would prioritize “front line workers” for COVID vaccines. While the government had previously said it would vaccinate by age group, the supply of Astra Zeneca vaccine has allowed them to set additional priorities to receive that vaccine.
The groups identified by public health and the COVID-19 Workplace Task Group (a Worksafe BC group) include the following workers who may be employed by municipalities:
- First responders (police and firefighters)
- Bylaw and quarantine officers
- Child care staff
These workers should NOT call in to the vaccine booking phone lines. The government will communicate with employers regarding vaccine schedules. They will use existing clinics, community pharmacies and some mobile clinics at worksites.
Employers can contact us with questions about COVID vaccines for their workforce.
